As they all say, qualifying for the University of the Philippines is just the beginning of your life in the premier State University. What comes after all the euphoria and thrill of qualifying for UP? You of course will be asked to fully accept your new life in college by confirming your slot in your chosen campus.
Confirming your slot is very important. Remember, you are only one among thousands who have long aspired to qualify for UP. Failure to confirm your slot, particularly in campuses where applicants may apply for reconsideration (this of course does NOT include UP Diliman), will leave your newly-vacated slot up for grabs and your effort to ace the UPCAT fruitless. The process of confirmation will make things easier for you once the periods for pre-enlistment, physical exams, and STFAP application come around.
The confirmation period starts more or less a month after the UPCAT results are released, lasting for approximately a month. Different UP campuses have different deadlines, since qualifiers (and non-qualifiers who may want to apply for reconsideration, depending on their UPG) might not immediately receive the letters, which will be needed for confirmation.
To keep up with the very busy lifestyles of modern Filipino students as well as to cater to UP qualifiers who live far from their chosen campuses, UP provides its students with several options by which to confirm their slots. The following methods may be used:
- Go to http://freshman.up.edu.ph and log in with your student number and PIN (found in your notice of admission);
- Send an e-mail to the Registrar’s Office in the campus where you qualified (selected campuses);
- Submit a telegram addressed to the Registrar’s Office of your campus;
- Fax the reply slip that will be included in the mail to the Registrar’s Office of your campus;
- Mail the reply slip that will be included in the mail to the Registrar’s Office of your campus; or
- Visit the designated personnel or section of the Registrar’s Office at your campus.
The Freshman Confirmation application may change its interface without prior notice, but the domain name and the procedure for confirmation through it remain the same. After clicking the radio button signifying your decision to enroll, you do not have to print the confirmation receipt. It’s okay if you want to—there’s nothing wrong with taking extra cautious steps!
Telegrams must include the student’s name, student number, and desired degree program. The table below shows the contact details for all campuses and the respective offices or personnel designated to receive notices of confirmation.

Types of Confirmation
The process of confirmation is not a quick process for everyone. For waitlisted applicants and qualifiers for a Degree Program with Available Slots (DPWAS), there is an additional step to the process.
- For Waitlisted Applicants
- When confirming your slot, apply for consideration for the program in which you are waitlisted.
- In case no slot will be available or you do not want to be considered in your waitlisted program, you may A) opt to enroll in your other choice of program, given that you qualified for it as well, or B) enroll in a degree program with available slots. You may choose up to three.
- For DPWAS Qualifiers: Confirm your slot and choose up to three programs among the list that will be given in the letter. Rank the programs in order of your preference.
If you are applying for a program which requires you to undergo the Talent Determination Test (BA Theater Arts, B Fine Arts, B Music), you must also choose three additional degree programs with available slots in which you may enroll in the event you fail the TDT.
After confirming your decision to enroll under these circumstances, you must wait until a specified date before finding out which program you will be assigned. Once you know the program you will be taking up for the next four or so years, contact your campus again to confirm your slot in that program. It would be preferable to reconfirm your slot online or over the phone. Be sure to follow any other step specified in any degree program you put in your choices, such as interviews and counseling sessions.

Deferring Your Enrollment
In some cases, you might have to take a break from studying first. In case you will not be able to study during the first semester or year due to financial concerns, health problems, or what have you, you can defer your enrollment for up to one year. You will still, however, have to confirm your intention to enroll. To do this, address a letter to the Registrar’s Office of your campus upon or after the confirmation of your slot. Health problems must be explained with a medical certificate.
One Down, Four to Go!
Can you call yourself a full-fledged UP student after confirming your decision to enroll? Not quite yet. You still have up to four steps to accomplish before you can savor the feeling.
