The education requirement to be a geologist is a bachelor’s degree in geology. This is a four-year college course that teaches you about the earth, its origins and its characteristic. Some subjects taught in this college course are geochemistry, surveying methods, geophysics, and related math and science subjects. In addition to these, you will also be taught mineralogy as well as petrology. Environmental science as well as resource geology will also be taught.

## Responsibilities:

• The main responsibility of a geologist is to study the earth, particularly the rocks and solids, to find the location of minerals deposits that have value to the economy. Examples of rocks and solids include metal and nonmetals as well as gas and petroleum. They also look for natural gas and water resources under the ground. It is also the responsibility of a geologist to study the effects of natural disasters such as erosions and landslides on land. Other responsibilities include recording data, interpreting data, creating reports, drawing maps, among others.

## Global Demand:

There is a good demand for geologists as both the government and large oil companies are in need of these professional. If you’re planning to go abroad, these are the countries that are hiring Filipino geologists – Solomon Islands, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and Papua New Guinea.

## Expected Salary:

Entry-level geologists usually earn about P12,000 to P25,000 monthly, but if you’re working for a private company, your salary could range anywhere from P20,000 to about P40,000. If you’re going to work abroad, say for example the United States, you could earn as much as $90,000 to$ 110,000 yearly.
