There is no special course to become an aircraft mechanic, but taking up aviation-related courses such as Bachelor of Science in Aircraft Technology as well as Aircraft Technician course will give you a good advantage. It will also be to your advantage to have a background in aircraft maintenance and repair. To be an aircraft mechanic though, you need to be licensed by the Air Transportation Office.

The starting salary for a junior aircraft mechanic starts at about P20,000 monthly, but if you advance to a higher position, the salary increases to about P30,000 with good benefits such as rice subsidy, continuing education, holiday and special day pay, etc. Overseas though, you can earn as much as P50,000 to P70,000.

Opportunities for Advancement:

If you want to advance your career, you need to undergo additional training and continuing education, which will take you about five or six years. From the aircraft mechanic A position, you could also advance to an aircraft inspector position, lead inspector, and even shop supervisor position.
