MAPUA Guinhawa Family Scholarship

MAPUA Guinhawa Family Scholarship

Scholarship Background

The Guinhawa Family Scholars program was established by Florencio Guinhawa as part of his “Pay It Forward” to the Filipinos. It was a payback for the deeds that many good persons provided him while he was growing up and struggling.
The idea of the Guinhawa Family Scholarship Program at MIT started to materialize and in January 2005. In June, 2008, as part of his CALABARZON educational investment, he signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Batangas State University and its president, Dr. Nora Magnaye and started the Gregorio and Esperdiona Guinhawa Scholarship, in honor of his parents.
In the beginning of the scholarship program, the criteria are based primarily on academic achievements, income ability and extra-curricular activities. Mapua Institute of Technology is based on a quarterm enrollment and the students are to complete their studies in 5-quarterm years. As the applicants grew in diversity in terms of academic and income level, he decided to grant the awards based on academic achievements and financial assistance needs. An essay that illustrates how the students will be able to contribute to the club’s goals of “Pay It Forward” is a requirement.
