Scholarship Background

The Scholarship for Children of Faculty (SCF) for DLSU was formulated to provide scholarships to qualified children of faculty of the University. The SCF is a replacement of the old tuition waiver scheme and took effect beginning AY 2005-2006.

Scholarship Benefits

The SCF covers tuition grants only (other fees not included) for the following:

For children of full-time faculty in active University service
• 100% tuition grant for elementary level
• 50% tuition grant for high school level
• 100% tuition grant for college level (undergraduate degree program only).
This scholarship can be awarded to only two (2) children per family in any given academic year.

For children of part-time faculty
• 75% tuition grant for elementary level
• 37.5% tuition grant for high school level
• 75% tuition grant for college level (undergraduate degree program only).
This scholarship can be awarded to only two (2) children per family in any given academic year.

For children of part-time faculty who opted for the tuition discount waivers of 1984
• 100% tuition grant for elementary level
• 50% tuition grant for high school level
• 100% tuition grant for college level (undergraduate degree program only).
This scholarship can be awarded to only two (2) children per family.

For children of full-time faculty who retired or died and who have served the University for ten (10) to twenty (20) years
• 100% tuition grant for college level (undergraduate degree program only).
This scholarship can be awarded to only one (1) child per family.

For children of full-time faculty who retired or died and who have served the University for more than twenty (20) years
• 100% tuition grant for college level (undergraduate degree program only).
This scholarship can be awarded to only two (2) children per family.

Any leave without pay availed of by the faculty member during the academic year will mean a proportionate reduction on the SCF tuition coverage.

Scholarship Qualifications

The following are qualified to apply:
1. Children of full-time faculty members who were in active service before May 1987 and continue to be in active University service while enjoying the benefit (Children of faculty members whose full-time service with the University had been severed and who have been subsequently rehired are not qualified to apply); Faculty who are on service, sabbatical or any leave with pay, as well as those who were seconded or in special detail to a De La Salle unit or affiliate are considered in active service;
2. Children of part-time faculty members who:
a. have been teaching for at least five (5) consecutive years prior to or by the start of
Academic Year 1987-88 (May 27, 1987);
b. teach at least six (6) units per trimester and taught at least eighteen (18) units for the preceding academic year;
c. are in active service; and who have had no break in service for any term since 1987 (A reduction of load to less than that required for availment constitutes a break in service);
3. Children of full-time faculty members who were in active service before May 1987, who retired or died and who have served the University for ten (10) to twenty (20) years prior to retirement or death; and
4. Children of full-time faculty members who were in active service before May 1987, who retired or died and who have served the University for more than twenty (20) years prior to retirement or death.

All applicants who meet the above-mentioned criteria must pass the entrance requirements of De La Salle University, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, La Salle Greenhills or De La Salle Santiago-Zobel School.

Scholarship Requirements

Application Procedure:
1. Submit the following requirements to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academics (VCA):
a. Accomplished Scholarship for Children of Faculty (SCF) Application Form
b. Official letter of acceptance from the school, or the previous year’s original report card (in case of old students)
c. Certification of good moral character from the Discipline Officer (or equivalent) of the school last attended
2. All documents received by the deadline shall undergo verification and will be forwarded to the Scholarship and Financial Assistance (SFA) Office. Based on the selection criteria, the University Scholarship Council will formalize the decision and inform the applicant accordingly.

Selection:
1. Must meet the required cut-off scores of the school where the applicant intends to enroll or of the college degree program he/she is applying for
2. Must have no previous disciplinary record

Retention:
1. Maintenance of Grade Point Average (GPA) of not lower than 1.600 or its equivalent each term (for college level only)
2. Obtaining a passing average at the end of the academic year, qualifying the scholars to be promoted to the next grade/year level the following year (for elementary and high school levels only)
3. Enrollment with a full-load or in units as prescribed in the program checklist (for college level only)
4. Non-shifting of degree program except for highly meritorious reasons (for college level only)
5. Truthful reporting of information on all SFA forms
6. Compliance with the guidelines incumbent upon awardees, per University Scholarship Council and SFA Office policies

Duration of Grant:
1. The grant is for one (1) academic year only (for elementary and high school), one (1) trimester only (for college level).
2. Grants are renewable thereafter upon compliance with SCF conditions. The grant may be renewed only if the faculty sponsor meets the basic application/renewal qualification (i.e. in active service with DLSU, or retired/deceased but with the required number of years of service).
3. For elementary and high school, the grant may be renewed up to the final grade/year of the level. For college, the grant may be renewed only up to the regular span of the student’s curriculum as indicated in the program checklist.
