UP XDS stands for UP Experimental Democratization Students, a program the university implemented from 1977 to 1981 to help correct an imbalance in student enrollment that favored the more affluent. The beneficiaries of this program enjoy financial assistance from the university, such as shouldering of the full cost of studies including tuition, board and lodging at university dormitories, books, transportation, and learning assistance materials.
The XDS alumni established the UP XDS Association, Inc. Scholarship Grant in 2007, geared towards offering a scholarship for an indigent student, especially someone from the province.
