NESCAFÉ Coffee University of the Philippines Scholarship (CUPS)

NESCAFÉ Coffee University of the Philippines Scholarship (CUPS)

Scholarship Background

The NESCAFÉ Coffee University of the Philippines Scholarship (CUPS) was launched to help generate interest in agriculture — particularly in coffee farming — among the youth.

Nestlé Philippines is paving the way towards reinventing the farmer. TheNescafé “CUPS” (Coffee University of the Philippines Scholarship) is a scholarship program for top students from low income families in the state university’s College of Agriculture. The objectives are to bring the Nescafé Plan to the academe, including the journey from “bean to cup”, post-harvest and the business process which includes the buying stations.

Introducing the Nescafé Plan to students enrolled in agriculture primes the transition from the present misperception of a farmer as lowly, to a business leader and mentor who is an invaluable expert in the coffee industry.

A year after graduation, the scholars will go on an On-the-Job Training with Nestlé Philippines’ agri-business section and also consultancy work as farm managers assisting the growing list of investors who have allocated their idle lands to coffee growing the Nestlé way. These scholars will eventually become mentors.
