Scholarship Background

The Emilia A. Alzona Undergraduate Scholarship Program started in 1190 and is administered by the UP College of Education. The donors for this scholarship program are the relatives of Cayo Alzona represented by Former Regent Encarnacion Alzona.

Encarnacion A. Alzona (b. March 25, 1895) is the first woman Ph.D. in the Philippines and is a distinguished National Scientist. She is a known historian and mentor to a generation of other historians and a professor of history at the University of the Philippines. She is also a writer and some of her historical writings have already become classics, particularly the book, “A History of Education in the Philippines.”

Scholarship Benefits

1. P 10,000.00 per semester

Seed Money: P 400,000.00

Funds with UP Foundation, Balance including interest: P 2,382,852.14

Scholarship Qualifications

1. Must be a full-time Senior student in the College of Education;
2. Must be of good moral character as evidenced by a certificate issued by any of the following: Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (OVCSA), dean of the College, a faculty member of the College.
3. Must have a weighted average of “2.0” or better and must not have a grade of “5.0” or unremoved grade of “4” or “Inc.” during the immediately preceding semester.
4. Must be actively involved in co-curricular activities as evidenced by supporting documents.
