On July 27, 2003 MAGDALO was founded by a group of reformist officers and men of the Armed Forces of the Philippines who upheld their Constitutional mandate as the protector of the people and the state, and bravely fought the corrupt and oppressive government then. The group’s members were eventually incarcerated for their convictions. Still, after several years in detention, they remained steadfast in their belief that the Filipino people deserve a better government. After several years, with all of their officers discharged from the military service, the MAGDALO remains intact with their conviction and still stand with their advocacy for good governance and social justice, together with their vision to have a peaceful, progressive and prosperous country with a united Filipino citizenry. Because of this drive, the MAGDALO had given birth to a vital instrument that will reach out and have positive impact on significant clusters of the Filipino society, the DIWA NG MAGDALO FOUNDATION INC (DMFI). This was accredited by the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) on June 29, 2011 as a non-stock, not for profit, non-governmental organization. To be able to inculcate its profound principles as a catalyst of peace, patriotism and nationalism, the DMFI introduced their Scholarship Program for deserving students from the University of the Philippines who are taking up courses that are geared towards public service professions. Instantaneously, this program started with UP students for Academic Year 2011-2012 from their campuses in Diliman and Manila. At this point, the DMFI is focused in providing sustainable livelihood and healthcare programs for the less fortunate members of the society especially the families of retired and active members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police as well as the dependents of other public servants.
