Based on my own understanding, UPCAT is not only a ‘requirement’ but also one of the things in life that I, as a student, must prepare for. Passing the UPCAT can be a help to us students. It can take us a step closer to having a better future. Yet we should also take note that without preparation and determination, it will be hard for us to take a step forward towards the staircase of success. I am reminded of the quote of Bobby Knight that goes “The will to succeed is important, but what’s more important is the will to prepare.” Yes, the will to succeed is important, but it would be useless if we don’t have the will to prepare for it. It’s just like saying you are prepared for war without carrying any weapon at all.

So what are the things that will help you in preparing for the UPCAT? Should we study in advance? Take notes? Don’t cram? Finalize the decision of your desired course in college? Choosing the right or ‘perfect’ university for you and your choice? What is the best thing to do anyways?

We must learn how to plan. Try to ponder upon your choice of course, for it will be a bother to us students if we are unsure about the course that we will take up for college. Studying in advance, taking notes of the lesson, participating in school activities that talks about career education, studying in a review center and even attending seminars could prepare us for the UPCAT. We could also ask adults or other people who have taken the UPCAT and ask them for advices on how to prepare for it. As the saying goes “Admitting your own ignorance is the first step to wisdom.” Another tip, generally speaking; do not be lazy. Do not be lazy to ask for help, to study, to make decisions and choices. In short DO NOT BE LAZY. A quote by Elbert Hubbard “Folks who never do any more than they get paid for, never get paid for any more than they do” speaks about people who don’t work for anything would not get anything in return. Just like multiplying any number to zero, its product would also be zero. You have the brains, the ideas and everything, but if you are lazy to put them into work, it is pretty much useless. We should also study out of the abundance of our hearts. Yes, it’s okay to think that we are studying for UPCAT because we have to, but that shouldn’t be the only reason, we must also prepare for this because we want it, we want it to help us, we want to reach that goal. We should prepare for it because it is one of our goals, not just because we have to, not just because we are forced by our parents but because it is our motive, our goal.

In a war, when you’re at battle, one soldier does not simply attack without having a plan. We shouldn’t follow Iron Man’s saying towards Captain America which was “I have a plan; Attack.” For me, behind every success is a great preparation. We cannot make a good-tasting cake if we didn’t prepare the ingredients and we most definitely get a good score in an exam if we didn’t study. So what I am trying to say is that in everything we do, we must always be prepared. Prepare to be prepared. So now we come to know, how must a student plan to conquer the UPCAT? I say that a student must be determined, a student must be prepared and lastly, the student must not forget to ask our dear Father for help and guidance.
