Although there is no specific educational requirement needed to become a flight attendant, most employers nowadays are choosing candidates with a college degree. Those applicants who had undergone flight attendant training are also more preferred than those who do not have any training. People-oriented disciplines or areas of concentration that can help you secure a job as a flight attendant include nursing, hospitality, as well as travel and tourism. You could also take up psychology or a communications course. Being able to speak a foreign language fluently will also give you an edge over the other applicants.

Cost of Education:

As mentioned earlier, there is no specific educational requirement, but having graduated from a bachelor’s degree course is going to give you an advantage. Bachelor’s degree courses typically costs about P3,500 to P10,000 each semester if you enroll in a public university; and P30,000 to about P55,000 in a private one.

Responsibilities:

  • The main responsibility of a flight attendant is to provide excellent customer service. This includes not only greeting passengers, but also verifying their tickets. In addition to this, it is also the flight attendant’s duty to explain where the emergency doors are and how to use the safety equipments. Other responsibilities include announcing information given by the pilot to the passengers as well as serving the passengers’ food and beverage.

 

 

Career Outlook and Global Demand

 

Global Demand:

Middle Eastern countries like Saudi Arabia and Libya are hiring Filipino flight attendants, but the most demand for flight attendants is local, especially companies that provide private aircraft services to top company executives.

Expected Salary:

Entry-level flight attendants can earn anywhere from P18,000 to about P26,000, depending upon the company. With experience and skills, the salary can go up to P36,000 to as high as P54,000 per month. Abroad though, flight attendants can earn about $6,650 per month.

Opportunities for Advancement:

From entry-level flight attendants, you can move up to a supervisory position such as a senior flight attendant or lead flight attendant. From there, your career can advance to check flight attendant. You can also advance to flight attendant supervisory position then base manager. Some flight attendants even become manager of in-flight operations, maybe even vice president of such.
