To be a nurse, you need to take up B.S. in Nursing. This is a four-year college course that will teach you about the human body, introducing you to how the body works, its different organ systems, the diseases that can affect the human body, and its treatment and preventive methods. In addition to this, B.S. in Nursing also teaches you about nursing fundamentals – how to care for your patients, how to maintain health, and how to respond to medical emergencies. Before you can practice nursing, you need to pass the licensure examination by the PRC (Professional Regulation Commission).

For the full four-year course, you need to prepare at least $145,000 to P400,000 if you’re going to enroll in a private institution. At present, the government is negotiating with other countries like Italy, Cyprus, as well Slovenia and Japan to open its doors for Filipino nurses. ## Expected Salary: Entry-level nurses usually earn P6,000 (rural areas) to P8,000 (urban areas). If you work for a private hospital, starting salary is usually P12,000. However, if you go abroad, starting salary is usually about$4,000 (US) and $700 to$1,500 (Middle East).

From entry-level nurse, you could advance your career and become a clinical nurse specialist. You could even become a nurse practitioner, nurse consultant, nurse researcher, or even a professor in a university.
