Very few universities can claim to have had the hands of such prominent figures as a president and a National Artist set upon them in such a short period of existence. Furthermore, only a handful can claim to house a prominent landmark in the historic district of Intramuros. These three things, among others, make the Lyceum of the Philippines University unique.
LPU seeks to live up to the impressive legacy of its founder, former Philippine president Dr. Jose P. Laurel, with its campuses in Manila, Batangas, Cavite, and Laguna. The system boasts of roots as colorful as those of its founder, and has been as prominent a figure as he has.
Since its founding in 1952, the university has been set apart from others. To this day, it is the only Philippine university to have been founded by a president of the country, and a highly acclaimed one at that. Dr. Laurel named the university after the grove in Athens where famed philosopher Aristotle taught his pupils. Among his numerous fields of expertise was education, a cause he supported despite the pressure of presidency, and it was this passion that drove him to establish LPU in partnership with then Senator Claro M. Recto after the Second World War.
After his untimely death in 1959, Dr. Laurel was succeeded by his son, Senator Sotero Laurel. Under his guidance, the university continued to flourish as his father would have wanted it to. Four other campuses were established in CALABARZON, all of which focus on multiple disciplines and which adhere to the university’s Quality Policy. The satellite campuses also operate under the leadership of Dr. Laurel’s sons and descendants to ensure that the care he had exhibited in his leadership of the university would continue to guide the system.
According to studies made by Academic Clinic (under http://academic-clinic.com/category/top-schools), LPU shows excellence in Dentistry (Batangas campus), and it is also quite well known for its hospitality academic programs, for which the university has been granted International Certification. These studies were based on board exam passing rates and rankings given by the PRC, as well as statistics and data provided by CHED.

LPU Application and Entrance Exam Schedule
Test registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. An applicant’s schedule will be given upon submission of requirements, the period for which is from November of the present year to May of the following year. The deadline for submitting requirements is a day before the desired testing schedule (if the desired testing time is 8:30 AM) or on the day itself (9:30 AM for the morning session, which is at 10:00 AM, and 12:00 NN for the afternoon session, which is at 1:30 PM). Applicants who lack requirements may submit their deficiencies up to an hour before the exam. Those from Visayas, Mindanao, or Northern Luzon may arrange special test dates; for all others, the assignment of special test dates is upon consent and approval of the Psychometrician.
Release of LPUCET Results
The results for the entrance test will be released one hour or less after it is taken. Applicants for BS Nursing may then submit their additional requirements and undergo a medical exam and an interview prior to reserving their slots or immediately enrolling.
LPUCET Coverage and Feedback
The examination lasts only about an hour. It is known to be easy and impossible to flunk, but as with any other easy entrance exam, one must not be complacent. It is still important to focus on the exam and take it seriously, and prayers must never be forgotten. Logic and basic high school topics in Mathematics, Science, and English will be covered in the exam.
