Assumption College Admission and Entrance Exam Basics

By:  Janina Denise Torralba

The credence of a school does not lie solely in the quality of its education. It also lies in the upbringing of its students—the morals, virtues, and bearing instilled by the school during a student’s stay. Like other Catholic colleges and universities, this belief is given importance by Assumption College.

As a college-preparatory Catholic college exclusively for girls, the former convent prides itself in producing well-rounded, God-fearing students who are equipped to serve God, the country, and those around them.

AC Introduction

The college was founded in 1892 by the Religious of the Assumption upon the instruction of Spain’s Queen Regent, Maria Cristina. The founder of this religious order was Marie Eugenie Milleret de Brou (now Saint Marie Eugenie of Jesus), who felt that her dream of pioneering women’s education in the Philippines was coming to fruition.

From its original location in Manila, the sisters of the Religious of the Assumption moved the College to Makati in 1959 and formally closed the Convent in 1973. The trademark customs of the college distinguish the students from others up to this day, customs which speak of refinement and poise.

According to sources, Assumption College specializes in the fields of Education, Business, Psychology, and Communication. Among the school’s illustrious alumnae are daughters and granddaughters of Filipino politicians, industrialists, and other prominent figures in the Philippine society.

AC Admission Qualifications

To become eligible for the Assumption College Admissions Test, students must be female fourth year high school students from the Philippines or across the Asia Pacific region. Applicants must have good academic background (with a general weighted average of at least 85%), with an average to above average rating on the stanine scale. Good discipline, active participation within the extracurricular activities of the school community, and positive feedback on the recommendation forms will tip the scale in the applicants’ favor.

AC Application Requirements and Procedures

The ACAT application form, Principal’s Recommendation form, and Guidance Counselor’s Recommendation form may all be downloaded here: http://www.assumption.edu.ph/hed/index.php/admissions/application-forms. Online application may be done at http://www.assumption.edu.ph/app/college/. Upon accomplishment of the three required forms, submit them to the Assumption College Admission Office. A test permit will be issued to you, along with the date of your ACAT.

The application fee varies for each type of student. Filipino graduates of local schools are required to pay PhP500.00; Filipino graduates of foreign/international schools and resident aliens who graduated from local schools are required to pay PhP900.00. Foreign applicants must pay an application fee of PhP1,500.00.

AC Application and Entrance Exam Schedules

The period for submitting applications and taking the ACAT is anytime from June of the present academic year to May prior to the applicant’s first academic year in the college. All requirements must be submitted a week prior to the desired testing date. Offices are open from Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

AC Provincial Testing Centers and Schedules

Provincial testing is done at the satellite campuses of AC, which are located in Antipolo, Davao, Iloilo, and Nabunturan, Compostela Valley. Similar application and entrance exam dates are given for these campuses.

Release of ACAT Results

The results for the ACAT become available one to two weeks after the date of the exam. To find out the results, contact the AC Admission Office at (+632) 817-7773 / 810-5083 / 817-0757 local 2050.

ACAT Coverage and Feedback

The ACAT is considered a very easy entrance exam, covering only basic high school topics in major subjects. It lasts for two hours and fifteen minutes and has much focus on English and Math. Should an applicant get a low score in a subject area that is required in her program of choice, she will then be encouraged to enroll in a summer bridge program to further hone her skills prior to entering college.
