hi po… don’t be offended pero ang hirap pong intindihin ng mga explanations kasi po walang mga kama na nagseseparate sa mga equations, i think. please work on that. pero thank you pa rin po. big help…

Agree!!

For this question..

“Determine the equation of the line which passes through (4, -2) and has a slope of 3.”

Y-(-2)=3(x-4)

Y + 2 = 3x – 12

Shouldn’t the answer be : y= 3x-14 , instead of y= 3x -10???

I don’t get it… 🙁

By the way, I really really love these quizzes!!! I learned a lot because of these.

lol I can’t even understand some of the explanations/solutions *needs more practice 🙁

ang hirap naman nento.. Haha LAlo na yung basic math test. HAha bobo ko talaga

Need more practice :\

thanks a lot because i pass the upcat 2013

Great job. Congratulations! 🙂

*passed

Nakakalito ba talga yung ibang questions o bobo lang tlga q? Lol

Nasan ung sample test

Congratulations – you have completed Basic Math Quiz. You scored 30 out of 30. Your performance has been rated as Perfect! I LOVE MATH! PROUD TNHSian!

yes!

Thanks God.

Andami ko nanaman natutunan.

hello !

basic in mathematics test, is very hard for me !

may iba naman na mali ang solution. Example sa number 15 dapat ang solution is: let x be r, x+1 be s, x+2 s,

so,

=[x-(x+1)][(x+1)-(X+2)][x-(X+2)]

=(x-x-1)(x+1-x-2)(x-x-2)

=(-1)(-1)(-2)

=-2

Try mo!

Akala ko rin mali ako pero r>s>t pala haha

mm. 21 lhan. :/

oh my gosh basic math i cant pass 😐 sucks !

was it harder sa actual upcat?: )

Sa 19 naman, ang liwanag nung sentence na “sixty-seven less than the sum of fifty-eight and forty-two” 67- (58+42) . kaya ang labo pano naging (58+42) – 67? hahaha. Buti sana kung nakalagay sa question eh “Sixty-seven subtracted to the sum of fifty-eight and forty-two”

Try mo!

Tama naman ah. 🙂 Parang 27 more than x = x+27. Jan naman, parang 67 less than 100 = 100-67. 😀

Tama na (58+42) – 67. Kasi sabi naman less than eh.

Ohhh!!! Same yung sagot ko… Feeling ko yan talaga yung sagot. Baka natypo lang. Hehe

Yung sa question po na

“For any integer n, which of the following represents the sequence of three consecutive odd integers?”

Ito po yung binigay na solution:

B. n, n + 2, n + 4 = (1), (1) + 2, (1) + 4 = 1, 3, 5 consecutive odd integers

C. 2n + 1, 2n + 2, 2n + 3 = 2(1) + 1, 2(1) + 2, 2(1) + 3 = 3, 4, 5 not a consecutive odd integers

D. 2n + 1, 2n + 3, 2n + 5 = 2(1) + 1, 2(1) + 3, 2(1) + 5 = 3, 5, 7 a consecutive odd integers

If n = 2,

A. n, n + 1, n + 3 = (2), (2) + 1, (2) + 3 = 2, 3, 5 not consecutive odd integers

B. n, n + 2, n + 4 = (2), (2) + 2, (2) + 4 = 2, 4, 6 not consecutive odd integers but consecutive even integers

C. 2n + 1, 2n + 2, 2n + 3 = 2(2) + 1, 2(2) + 2, 2(2) + 3 = 5, 6, 7 not consecutive odd integers

D. 2n + 1, 2n + 3, 2n + 5 = 2(2) + 1, 2(2) + 3, 2(2) + 5 = 5, 7, 9 consecutive odd integers D satisfy both sample value for n.

Yung sagot po dito ay 2n + 1, 2n + 3, 2n + 5. Pero di po ba dapat n, n + 2, n + 4 yung sagot? Bakit po sinama yung n=2 e diba po even yun? Thankyou. 🙂

“For any integer n” kasi

PLEASE look at this question.

Which of the following set of fractions arrange in ascending order?

A. 5/12, 1/9, 7/8, 11/8

B. 3/16, 1/7, 2/5, 5/6

C. 13/15, 1/4, 3/8, 5/6

D. 6/19, 7/12, 3/4, 4/5

Question 23 Explanation:

A. 0.416, 0.111, 0.875, 0.611 not in ascending order B. 0.187, 0.143, 0.400, 0.833 not in ascending order C. 0.316, 0.583, 0.750, 0.800 in ascending order D. 0.867, 0.250, 0.375, 0.833 not in ascending order.

The right answer was letter D. according to the reviewer but the real answer is letter C.

Same happened to me. Pero yes, D ang tamang sagot. :))

Q#5: As you explained, the amount paid = 0.99OP. so that means the amount paid is 1% (not 10%) lower than the original price, or equivalently, the amount paid is 99% of the original price.

Q#25: Please check the last part of your computation. If y+2=3x-12 then y=3x-14

Q#27: The equation should be x/10 + 2x/5 = 1 . The second term should not be 5x/2. so the answer should be 2 days.

I agree with you and Bankai.

Question 23, 5, 25 and 27 have errors. 🙂

You’re my hero!

i think there’s something wrong in the question in determining the equation of the line which passes through (4,-2) and has a slope of 3

in getting the slope we use the formula: y=mx+b

substituting now given x as 4, y as -2 and m is 3

-2=(3)(4) + b

-2=12 + b

-14=b

the answer should be

y=3x-14

just saying 🙂

im sorry it’s getting the equation of the line the formula is y=mx + b not getting the slope

also getting the same answer (y=3x-14)

In the question Determine the value of k so that the line kx – 8 + 7y = 0 will be parallel to the line 2x – y + 1 = 0…

The given answer is -14…

If so, given that answer isn’t it asking for the value of k so that it would be PERPENDICULAR to line 2x-y+1=0.

I’m not a math whiz like the rest of you here so I only checked…

Like I was saying, it was asking for a line perpendicular to the given equation. Why?

I tried getting the x and y coordinates of -14x -8 + 7y.

X coordinate

-14x -8 + 7(0) = 0

-14x = 8

x = -14/8 or -7/4

Y coordinate

-14(0) -8 + 7y = 0

7y = 8

y = 7/8

You can get the slope of the line using rise/run which means:

(7/8) / (-7/4)

7/8 x (-4/7)

-28 / 56

m = -1/2

Line 2x-y+1 has a slope of 2.

None of the choices give us an equation with a slope of 2.

The equation -14x-8+7y=0 gives us a slope of -1/2, thus, it is PERPENDICULAR TO THE LINE 2x-y+1=0

I’m not some math genius so then again, I could be wrong…

Hello. Please don’t be offended. I just want to clear something here.

the equations are kx – 8 + 7y = 0 and 2x – y +1 = 0

We are taught that you can just transpose the equation to get the slope using the form y = mx + b

so the two equations will be y = -kx/7-8/7 and y=2x+1

the slopes of the two equations will be the coefficient of the x

so it will be -k/7 and 2

Since to have a parallel equation the equations should have equal slopes.

So we can just make the equation….

-k/7 = 2

(cross multiplication)

-k = 14

[-k = 14]/-1

so it will be -14.:)

I just want to help.:)

kx-8+7y=0…,m=-k/7

2x-y+1=0….,m=2

2=-k/7

14=-k

k=-14

check:

-14x-8+7y=0…,m=14/7 or 2

2x-y+1=0….,m=2

thats my solution…i THINK its correct

1 = (1/ days of Mrs.Isagani)x + (1/ days of Mrs.Rosas)x

1 = (1/10)x + (1 / (5/2))x

1 = (1/10)x + (2/5)x

1 = (1/10)x + (4/10)x

1 = (5/10)x

1 = (1/2)x

x = 2

awaiting reply po kung tama.. 😀 .. thanks!

So magiging 1 * 2/5 = 2/5. Anyare? Bakit hindi nagrecipocal?

Yung question number 9 explanation doesn’t support question number 9’s correct answer. please check po. mukhang baliktad lang po yung B and C.

question number 8 po pala.

I think there’s something wrong with the answer in Q#18. The rate of Mr. Rosas should be x/(5/2). Simplifying it should be 2x/5.

x/10 + 2x/5 = 1

5x/10=1

5x=10

x=2.

So the time should be 2.

This is also what I got

OMG. This so hard, even basic math I can’t pass, lol. But I got 44/50 in Vocabulary. Being American is a great advantage in taking the UPCAT. lmao. Goodluck to all of us.

Question 14 Explanation:

= 20 + 981/9) – (4+9) = 20 + 9 – 13 = 16

merong mali … ung 981/9 dpat 81 lng.. un lang

Typo error lng yun, yun 981/9) should be (81/9) kaya tama pa rin…
