FEU Application and Entrance Exam Basics

When my father graduated from high school, his next step was to go to Metro Manila to study at the college of his choice.  It’s understandable, considering the city is where the action is—at least most of the time.

Though there are universities with provincial campuses, there are other universities that will provide provincial testing centers for you, yet point you toward Metro Manila campuses when you pass.  Let’s take a look at Far Eastern University and how its application process works.

FEU Background

FEU bears the distinction of being the first Business and Accountancy School in the country.  It has significantly expanded its of course offerings since its early days, which has led to the delegation of courses between campuses.  The Makati campus gets all the business courses, while the Manila campus gets the non-business ones like fine arts, nursing, psychology, etc.

FEU Admission Requirements

To qualify for FEU, applicants must have satisfactorily completed their high school education or its equivalent and must have passed the FEU College Admissions Test (FEU-CAT) as well.  Examples of equivalent secondary school education include the DepEd’s Philippine Educational Placement Test (PEPT) or its Non-Formal Equivalency test.

The required paperwork is as follows:

  • Original Form 138 (4th year High School Report Card) or equivalent documents
  • Photocopy of the NSO Birth Certificate.
  • Down payment for enrollment (as mentioned in the notification letter)

In case you’re wondering, acceptable documents equivalent to the high school report card include PEPT Records, GED Certificates, Certificates of High School Equivalence, Transcript of Student Progress, Certificates of Secondary Completion, Permanent Record Cards, etc.

Applicants who have lost their high school credentials must present the following to the Admissions Office:

  • the Official Form 137
  • a duly notarized Affidavit of Loss
  • signed letter of explanation

In the event that the applicants’ requirements are incomplete, they will be asked to sign a sign a waiver form indicating a deadline for the submission of the missing requirements.

Applicants will be classified as being “on probation” if their test scores are lower than the FEU cut-off score.  They may still continue with their application under certain conditions:

  • They cannot take certain courses:
    • BS Accountancy
    • BS Architecture
    • BS Medical Technology
    • BS Nursing
  • They must strictly follow the selective retention policy.
  • They will receive endorsement to the Counseling and Career Office for inclusion in the FEU Student at Risk (STAR) Program.

Applicants of the four degree programs mentioned above, plus those interested in fine arts, have some special requirements to take note of.  Kindly go to this webpage for more details.

Finally, please note that the screening process is similar between the two campuses, and that FEU maintains a strict “no exam retake policy”.

FEU Application/Entrance Exam Schedule

The application period for the FEU College Admissions Test (FEU-CAT) administered to aspiring FEU Manila and FEU Makati freshmen for the 2012-2013 intake year is currently ongoing. The FEU-CAT is administered every Saturday.  Each Saturday will consist of two testing sessions:  one at 8:00 a.m. and the other at 1:00 p.m.

To apply, simply obtain an application form from any one of three sources: the FEU website, the guidance office of your high school or the FEU campus itself (Admissions Office for the Makati campus and Technology Building Lobby for the Manila campus).

Complete the form and send it in along with two 2×2 colored ID photos. Pay the 450-peso testing fee and get your official receipt.  The school will also give you your specific testing schedule and venue at that time.  Remember to take your school ID and your receipt with you (it will double as your test permit) when you take the exam.

If you pass, you’ll still need to go for a face-to-face interview during enrollment in April of the following year.

FEU Provincial Application/Testing Process (This part is not updated -i.e. still refers to 2010 testing dates – due to lack of info)

If you hail from the province, simply go to the guidance office of the relevant testing center (listed below) a day before the scheduled exam date.  Make sure you bring 300 pesos and a couple of recent 2 x 2 ID pictures with you.

Attend the orientation, submit the photos and pay the exam fee to register.  After that, return the following day to take the exam.  As with Metro Manila applicants, the interview follows in April of 2011.

The 2010 testing dates and venues for provincial applicants are as follows:

Province Testing Center Date
Cabanatuan Honorato Perez Memorial Science High School September 4
Mindoro Jose Memorial Science High School Aug 21
Dagupan Dagupan National High School Sept 18
Isabela Isabela National High School July 17
Olongapo St. Joseph’s College Oct 9
Lucena Quezon National High School Oct 16
San Fernando, Pampanga Pampanga High School Nov 20

There are two exams per scheduled day: one at eight in the morning and another one at two in the afternoon.  Each session is good for two-and-a-half-hours.

Release of FEU Entrance Exam Results

The school will notify applicants of the results in a number of ways. It will usually send notification letters to the potential students and post the results on bulletin boards within the campus.  The campus’ Technology Building Lobby is usually the venue in the latter case—expect them to be up a week before the start of the enrolment period for freshmen.

Alternatively, applicants may call the school to inquire (the only exceptions being transferees to Nursing, Architecture, Medical Technology or Accountancy) or check the FEU official website.  The website should be updated after two working days following the exam date..

General FEU Exam Coverage and Feedback

The FEU-CAT is fairly standard as far as entrance exams go.  It covers material discussed in high school Mathematics, Science and English, with some IQ questions (logical and abstract reasoning) thrown in for good measure.  Expect some enumeration and essay questions as well..

Word has it that the test is not particularly difficult, but don’t underestimate it, or you could be in for a rude awakening.

    • Hi Christina,

This – http://www.feu.edu.ph/admissions/transferee – might help. You are also strongly advised to call FEU directly for information.

    • Hi Hazel,

As the post indicates, testing for FEU Manila and Makati started last September (2011). Please contact or go to the FEU campus in which you’re interested to get an application form.

  6. tanong lng po pano po pg bumagsak ako sa entrance exam ko po sa course na tinake ko , pde pa pu ba ako mg take uli ng exam sa ibang course ng feu?

    • No. If you failed, you failed. Your test result is valid for 3 years. :) I would say that the FEU-CAT isn’t that hard basta babasahin at sasagutang mabuti. :)

    • Hi April,

    • Hi Jiejie,

The FEU-CAT 2011 was administered until May of this year. The FEU website is silent on until when it will administer the FEU-CAT 2012 (i.e. the current FEU-CAT for SY 2012-2013). All we know at this point is that exams are administered every Saturday (but this applies only to the FEU Manila and the FEU Makati campuses).

Your best course of action – if you want to become an FEU freshman next schoolyear (2012-2013) – would be to head on over to the FEU campus of your choice, procure the application form and take the FEU-CAT as soon as possible.

That being said, be sure you are ready when you do take the exam. FEU has a strict no-retake policy.

    • try to call FEU hotline. if not punta na lang kayo sa FEU. if its FEU manila. Go straight to AERO. Andun po ang list kun pasado po kayo or not.

      -feu student

      • Hi Nica,

Thank you very much for taking the time to answer questions from aspiring FEU freshmen. We really appreciate the help. I hope you’ll be back often to offer guidance and share info.

        Maraming, maraming salamat! :)

  12. I took the entrance exam a few days ago ,
its a computer Based test (just like TOEFL iBT),
the topics are English , Science , Math , and Abstract reasoning
You have 30 minutes to answer each subject. English is not very hard if you have a good comprehension of the language , Science is Too easy..
and maths is kinda Hard (I’m bad in Mathematics)..
    abstract reasoning is OK.

  15. Never underestimate the entrance exam in FEU..some are thinking that its easy to pass the exam, but because of ever confident…it turned out to conditional status…

for those who easily passed the test..goodluck..its not easy to stay for 4 or 5 yrs in FEU…or should i say a semester…

  16. good day!
i’ll be taking the test this coming saturday,
and to be honest i am worried, kasi baka i may not able to passed the test.
