USTET Results and the Next Steps

A wise person once told me that the uncertainty of a given situation often proves to be more stressful than bad news per se.  There’s something in all of us that wants to know things for sure, exam results included.

Fortunately for students living in the Information Age, universities have a tendency to post the results of their entrance tests online.  In fact, the results of the University of Santo Tomas’ exam (the USTET) should already be out by the time you read this article.

Online Convenience

Gone are the days when prospective Thomasians had to physically visit the school in order to learn how well (or not) they did on the USTET.  Nowadays, they have the option of visiting this nifty little website to check the results.

A quick glance at the site itself will tell students everything they need to know about the status of their UST application.  All visitors need to do is to type their previously obtained applicant numbers and surnames in the appropriate fields, click on the “submit” button and voila!  A handy list of the various status terms (complete with descriptions) is also displayed on the right side of the page for convenience.

Note the website will only tell you your exam results—it won’t follow up on those results for you.  To do that, you’ll still need to do the necessary legwork, which brings me to my next point.

The Next Step

Assuming you’ve passed the exam, your next order of business is to confirm your enrolment slot.  Prepare the following:  your USTET permit or result form, a 2 x 2 sized photo of your mug, a certificate of good moral character prepared by your high school principal and your class adviser (or your guidance counselor), the original copy of your high school report card (also known as Form 138) and five thousand pesos.

If you’re a resident or an immigrant alien, you’ll also need to prepare an original verified copy of your ACR (Alien Certificate or Registration).  If you’re a non-resident alien, however, simply get your student visa or passport ready.

Head on over to the university and turn in all the required paperwork, or else you’ll end up forfeiting your chance of registering for the school year.

Inquiries About “Special Cases”

Please note that the aforementioned instructions only apply to those who have passed the USTET and are supposed to confirm their intention to enroll in the university.  Sometimes, however, applicants will find themselves linked with an entirely different status:  waitlisted, set on academic placement, qualified for Letran only or, in worst case scenarios, non-qualification.

In cases like these, the next step will depend on the nature of their status—it’s an entirely new subject that’s beyond the immediate scope of this article.  Nevertheless, the best thing to do would be to follow any instructions listed on this website, or to inquire from the powers-that-be.

If you have any questions about deadlines or the admission process, the UST Student Admissions may be reached at (+632) 406-1611 local 8276, (+632) 3097211 or at +63 917-8156323 or +63 919-3522634.  Alternatively, applicants may e-mail the office at or visit the office itself at Room 104, UST-Tan Yan Kee Student Center, UST compound, Espana, Manila.
