Quezon City Science High School Entrance Exam Schedule

By admin

  • Share/Bookmark

Each school has its own benchmarks for potential students hoping to study in its halls.  Of particular note is the strict standard set by the science high schools:  Philippine Science, Manila Science and Quezon City Science.

Not to be out done by its contemporaries, Quezon City Science High school (hence forth known as QueSci) has some important facts for student applicants who wish to grace its campus.  Before we proceed, please note that the information below is tentative and subject to change.

The QueSci Application System

The application period for school year 2010-2011 at QueSci is all set to start this last quarter of 2009 (The Admission Office staff estimate it at anytime from September to November).  Before you rush out and apply, though a caveat:  the institution’s application system is a little different from that of other schools’.

For one thing, QueSci will not hand you your application form right away, even if you ask for it.  Present your Grade 5 report card first and the school will then screen you—specifically, they’ll have to check and see if the grades on your card meet their standards.

In order to qualify, you must have at least an average of 85 in Math, Science and English, and at least an average of 83 on all other subjects.  Furthermore, your overall weighted average must be at least 85, too.

Assuming you meet those requirements, they will then hand you the application form.  Fill it up, pay the fee (around two hundred fifty pesos or so, as of the time of this article’s writing), give them some 1 x 1 ID pictures, and proceed with the rest of the process.

QueSci Testing Dates

Another interesting thing to note about the QueSci system is that involves a multi-phase exam.  That’s right:  you need to go three phases of exams, and only if you pass the preceding phase(s).  .

The three exams consist of the first, more general test, a second subject proficiency test (focusing specifically on Math, Science and English) and an oral interview.  There’s actually a fourth exam—a medical exam—after the oral interview, but this last phase is more for formality’s sake.  If you reach this part, it means you’ve passed all three preceding phases.

As of last year, the first part of the multi-phase exam kicked off last December 5, 2008, with the second and third phases in January and February, respectively.  A similar schedule may be followed this year, depending on how things go.

Releasing of Results

Expect QueSci to release the results of your labor about a month after the oral interview (The case of last year’s set ended up being released just last March 2009.).  As of now, no exact date has been given, so check with the QueSci Admissions Office every so often for updates.

You may call either 4250287, 9220739 or 4536619 during office hours.  Preferably ask for either Ms. Hilario or Ms. Cayetano, as they’re the people in charge.  Unfortunately, QueSci currently has no official website you can visit.  Feel free to visit the unofficial Multiply site if you wish, though:

If you’re feeling adventurous, you may also opt to visit the high school compound along Misamis Street, Barangay Santo Cristo, Quezon City.  The QueSci Admissions Office will post the details of the exam results on the school bulletin boards once they’re ready.

sa pagkakaalam ko po there will be another test. If you passed it, then you will be able to undergo the interview phase although this is done to rank you whether you’ll be on the first section, which is Hydrogen, or not. Usually, there are 7 sections and each section has 35-36 students.

    #309
    • @nymla,

Good day! Please refer to the section on “QueSci Application System”. That, in a nutshell, is the QueSci entrance exam application process. First, you need to present yourself to the Admissions Office to get an entrance exam application form. Once you get the form, fill it out and submit it back to QueSci before the deadline. Then present yourself for the exams (you need to pass the preceding exam to qualify for the succeeding exam) and the interview (which may take place in between exams).

I would like to ask if there are scholarship programs offered by your school? I have a bright student who will transfer in Manila because but he is suffering in financial matters. In fact, this student won in different Math Competitions sponsored by MTAP and MTG. He is incoming first year.I am looking for some scholarship programs which he can grab.

I hope you will respond. Thank you!

We are currently living in Thailand but we plan to move by next year in the Philippines. My concern is my daughter who is now at her 7th grade (which is equivalent to 1st year in the Philippines). I would like to enroll her in QueSci but I have few questions:

    1. will she be considered as a transferee for 2nd year and has to take an exam similar to the first year entrance exam or another special set of exam; and when; what are the requirements?
    2. she started attending school here in Thailand since nursery and so she has not taken Filipino subject, instead, Thai culture. Will this be carried?

Please advise. Thank you in advance.

Note: We are still Filipino citizens.

    To Tina

I will just like to respond to it kase i currently study in QueSci and is a 2nd year student. If you don’t pass the Entrance exam, for example you don’t pass the first screening then you won’t be able to take the second screening. If you passed the second screening then the third screening is an interview.

May question po ako, ma naencounter na po ba kayo na nagkaproblem sa Quesci admission? Nag-aaply po kasi kami sa Quesci and I’ve read from here na kailangan ng grade 5 card para ipakita before getting a form. Galing po kasi kami sa non-traditional school, so modular system po sya meaning non-graded. so, wala po talagang iniissue na card ang school but magbibigay sila upon request kung magtatransfer ang bata. ang nilalagay lang po is final numerical equivalence ng year level na hinihingi which is equivalent to final grade for traditional school. Medyo naguguluhan po kasi kami, dahil nung nagpunta po kami sa Quesci kahapon, ayaw tanggapin nung nag-aassess sa gate dahil kailangan daw may 1st quarter-4th quarter grade ung card, eh sinabi na namin sa kanya na non-traditional sila at modular, so walang mga quarterly exams and nakanote naman po dun sa card yung sinabi namin dun sa assessor, pero nakikipag-argue pa sya. so ngayon naman po tumawag kami sa Quesci regarding that, inexplain ko na ganon, sabi sakin final grade ang kailangan nila dahil sinabi ko nga na modular at non-traditional, at ang nahingi lang namin sa school is final dahil yun lang meron, sabi nya naman ang importante daw is final numerical equivalence ang kailangan nila so sabi ko if ever hingi na lang kami sa school ng letter stating the system na iattach na lang sa card, i think she misunderstood me, dahil sinabi nya na kung makakahingi daw naman ng may quarterly grade bakit pa mag-aargue dahil kinuwento ko din sa kanya yung experience namin sa assessor sa gate. Ang tanong ko po is may narining na po ba kayo na ganito or naencounter nyo na po ba yung galing sa non-traditional school sa nag-apply sa Quesci and ganito po nangyari? Reply is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance po.

    #123
    • Hi Erika,

We’ve never encountered that problem before. It’s a first for us. Have you tried going back to QueSci and filing your application with your non-traditional cards? I hope you’ll update us on what happened so we can help others who have the same issues. If you haven’t been back yet, try to go back there with your parents. That can pull some weight so you can get past the gate.
