UPCAT Schedule and Important Dates

Hello boys and girls!  UPCAT is right around the corner.  We sincerely hope you are prepared to face the grueling (depends on your point of view), five-hour (this is fact) exam.

UPCAT Schedule:  August 1 to 2, 2009

The UP College Admission Test is set to take place on August 1 to 2, 2009 barring unforeseen issues or problems.  For that matter, I don’t know if UPCAT has ever been postponed.  I will have to look in on that.  Better yet, if you have information you wish to share, please hit me; I’m open.

UPCAT Application Deadlines

June 23, 2009 – Deadline for Filing of UPCAT Application if you go to a school in Metro Manila
June 30, 2009 – Deadline for Filing of UPCAT Application if you go to a non-MM school

All in all guys, you have only from 1-8 days to get that application in where it belongs.  Please, please don’t wait till the deadline – I’m especially talking to you folks from the province since you still have time.  You don’t want to prematurely experience the lines in the University of Pila.  If you intend mailing in your application forms, ask your school to send in your and your classmates’ forms in one big batch.  Again, don’t wait till the day before the deadline; you don’t want to find out at the last minute that your courier service provider lost your application forms along the way.

UPCAT Application Form

If you have never heard of UPCAT till now (where on Earth are you living, anyway?), you still have a chance to get your application in (as long as you have courier service in your town and your school officials prove to be cooperative).  Simply download the forms and the guidelines listed below (these PDF documents are sourced directly from the UP website), print them, fill them out, and get them over to the Office of Admissions by the above stated dates.

UPCAT Form 1:  UPCAT Application for Freshman Admission, First Semester AY 2010-2011:  Download

UPCAT Form 2:  University of the Philippines Secondary School Record:  Download

If you need a primer on the UPCAT, donwload the document specified below.  Like the other two, this comes from the UP website.  Unlike the other two, this is an MS Word document.  You’ll be asked to either “Open” or “Save” the document in your computer; the document will not open in your browser.

UPCAT General Information:  A Primer on the UPCAT Applicatiom Process:  Download

UPCAT Fees

Now, if you’re wondering how much UPCAT costs, we have just the information you need.  If your annual family income (that’s gross) is P100,000 and above, you have to pay P450.  If you are taking the UPCAT in the Middle East, your UPCAT Fee is $100.  Foreigners living abroad have to pay $50.

U.P. Office of Admissions

Now again, if you have questions, don’t keep them.  They won’t do you any good that way.  Just ask Academic-Clinic (that’s me and the other members of our team); we are always willing to help.  Just email your question to us at academic.clinic [at] yahoo [dot] com, okay?  You might also want to read up on our tips on how to go about in choosing a good UPCAT review center or some UPCAT tips and strategies.

You can also go pay a personal visit to the University of the Philippines’ Office of Admissions at Solidor Hall in UP Diliman.  You may also contact the same office at telephone numbers: (+632) 9274561
and  (+632) 9818500 local 3827 to 3831  or send them an email at [email protected].

ano po ba yung mga courses na non-quota at quota?reply po!thank you!

    #952
    • Hi Pearl,

UP no longer makes a distinction between quota and non-quota courses. In any case, the non-quota classification was given only to identify courses that had fewer applicants. Now that the quota and non-quota classification is no longer practiced, we can simply assume that popular courses are quota courses whereas less-known programs are non-quota courses.

To choose your course, download the UPCAT application guide (found at our Downloads page). As you can see from that document, courses are no longer classified as quota or non-quota.

Hi I’m Leonie. i am a junior highschool student now, i want to ask if when will be the 2011-2012 UPCAT.. i am so excited… and where can i get the application forms.. thanks…

    • @Leonie,

Hi! As of now, UP hasn’t released its application dates yet. The next UPCAT should still be in August (2010). Deadlines for application should still be in June (2010). The application forms may be procured from the UP Office of Admissions in UP Diliman or from the Office of the University Registrar of any UP campus. The application form is also typically made available online when the application period has officially begun.

    • @Rufino,
Generally, the UPCAT is only for people who haven’t taken or aren’t taking any college subjects. However, UPCAT is not the only way in to the University of the Philippines. Check out this article for UP backdoor suggestions. You can also speak to someone from UP Diliman’s Office of the Registrar to explore other options. The trunkline to UP Diliman is (02) 981-8500. You’ll get an automated recording. Press 0 to get connected to the operator. Ask the operator to connect you to the Office of the Registrar.

Thanks for visiting and good luck!

Hello, I’m a pastor and finished my Bachelor’s Degree in Theology from non-CHED accredited seminary.

I intend to study community development work at UPCSWCD next year but I don’t have the Special Order to make it to masteral degree of any CHED accredited university. Is there a chance for me to enrol in UP to get another bachelor’s degree?

    Thanks. Dios Mabalos!

    #312
    • @Alvin,

Generally, you need to take the UPCAT to enroll in a bachelor’s degree program in UP. To be eligible to take the UPCAT, on the other hand, one must not have taken any college subjects. This is a problem in your case, seeing as you already have a degree.

Please talk to the College of Social Work and Community Development to see if there’s any way they can accept you directly or if other arrangements can be made.
      1. Call the UP trunkline: (02) 981-8500.
      2. Once you hear the automated recording, press 0 to speak to an operator.
      3. Ask the operator to connect you to CSWCD, specifically to the Office of the College Secretary.

      You’re welcome and God Bless!

I would like to inquire whether there is a last UPCAT examination for late examinees for the school year 2010-2011 First Semester since my sister was not informed that the UPCAT was this August and regretfully, we were not able to apply for it but are still interested if ever there are any last examination schedules still available for next school year.

    • Hi Tanya,

I’ve spoken with someone from the UP Admissions Office. She told me that there is no other UPCAT aside from the one held on August 1 and 2. UPCAT is administered only once a year. Your sister, who hasn’t been able to sit that exam, has two options to get into UP:

Transfer: Enroll in a different university, finish at least 33 units, get high grades, then apply for transfer to the UP campus and college that she wants.

Take the UPCAT for Academic Year 2011-2012: Your sister can wait for the next UPCAT, which will be held in August of 2010. However, to be eligible to take that UPCAT, she can’t have taken any university/college units. That means that if she’s opting for this option, she should not enroll in any university or college (and take up any college units) in June of 2010.

I’m afraid both options will take a year of waiting. With the first option, she’ll have to wait at least one year to transfer. With the second, she’ll have to wait another year to take the UPCAT and she’ll also have to take a sabbatical from student life.

  10. Hi Tom,

As commenter ocs has said, it’s probably too late to enroll this semester. Your friend can do as ocs suggests and inquire about a spot in college, however late it is.

Nonetheless, it is probably more realistic to aim for following semester. If he is interested in Legarda’s scholarship, he will have to take up a course in agriculture.

If he wants, he can talk to the Registrar at the University of the Philippines in Los BaƱos about the application procedure and requirements. He can also still apply for the UPCAT right now (he has until the 30th to file the application and he will have to sit the exam in August). He should choose a course in agriculture and set UPLB as his primary campus choice in his UPCAT application form. I assume he hasn’t taken any college courses after graduating from high school so he should have no problem qualifying for the admission exam.

Unfortunately, it may be a little late for him to complete and send in his application to UP’s Office of Admissions at this time. If he is willing to consider another college or university, he may be able to get in his application with ample time to spare for next semester’s classes. As long as he gets good grades, he can apply for a transfer to UP on his second year in college.

Right now, what your friend can do is inquire about the scholarship and to apply for it. Please forward the following information to your friend. He should contact Senator Loren Legarda’s office regarding the scholarship.

    Room 209 GSIS Building
    Roxas Boulevard
    Pasay City
    Telephone No: (632) 552-6601-80 loc. 5537-39
    Fax No: (632) 833-4987
    Email:

Thank you very much for visiting, Tom. Please don’t hesitate to contact us again if you have more questions.

I just found out about Sen. Legarda’s Organic Agr. Scholarships and know a 26 yr hold HS graduate in Surigao Del Norte who works with his family on their organic farm. He wants to return to school, but it looks like the timing is terrible. What do you suggest? Is it a too late situation for this year…or what can/should he do? Thanks, Tom

Hi, Yes, unfortunately you’re right. He can still enroll though, I had a friend once who managed to get a one month extension for his enrollment by securing a permit from the Office of the Registrar. All he has to do is to make a request for enrollment letter, submit it to the office and explain why he needs the extension. If the excuse is valid, the OUR will probably grant his request. Goodluck!
